Plating With Copy Cad®

The parts were glass bead blasted and then burnished with a soft wire wheel. I've done several bikes with this system, so it has more than paid for the cost of the kit many times over!!! This system is quite simple to use and the results are outstanding!!!! -  Nelson Barlow

Nickel and Copper Plating

Here are some photos of 1906 mechograpoh semi automatic telegraph I restored for a collector in South Carolina. I stripped it using battery acid and reverse current. Then I nickel flash plated, then acid copper plated it heavy then buffed using tripoli and a spiral buff, then blue compound and loose muslin buff, then nickel plated again with just some slight buffing, then waxed it with Flitz metal wax. Some parts were missing and damaged and I made new parts for those. Donald Hensley

Nickel & Gold Plating
  1. Polished it with vibratory tumbler.

  2. Cleaned it with ultrasonic cleaner and then electrocleaner, so important to get it 100 percent clean.

  3. Plated with bright nickel

  4. Buffed with white compound then back in vibratory tumbler to remove buffing scratches

  5. Plated with 24 kt. gold cyanide

  6. Assemble with cotton gloves and nervous hands.

It's way more beautiful in person. Actually I have made about 30 gold plated telegraph keys of this type, some chrome ones too but I prefer to send out the chrome to a shop for them to do, I just don't have the time to do it all. I also machined all the parts on the key. I made the whole thing, except a few screws not shown underneath the bottom and a few wire lugs; it's my hobby, View some others at http://www.qsl.net/n9bor/hensley.htm

Nickel Plating

The miniature radial engine has an induction and exhaust system made of bent and brazed copper tubing. The nickel plating they received looks tremendous, almost like chrome, and has resisted vibration, heat and oil without flinching. In addition, the brass fuel/oil tank was also nickel plated to match and came out perfectly. I also used nickel plate to build-up the bearing surfaces of the model jet engine (functional) turbine rotor. The nickel is hard, slippery, polishes to tight dimensions, and helps prevent corrosion in this critical part. I use a gear head motor to hold and rotate the part in solution... this plates evenly and has the added benefit of gently agitating so that I have never had to use a separate air bubbler or other stirring system. I have never had bubble pricks or other blemishes with this technique.

Electroless Nickel Plating

This is a bit of a departure from the usual "before and after" since it's of the radiator before the grille and after the grille as you will see. It's a 1923 Model T Ford "T-Bucket". 350 Chevrolet, hopped up, etc. etc. I have other pics that show the entire car when it's all together but I have it apart just now for winter for painting and polishing and plating. I built this car from scratch using plans and ideas from many sources.

Caswell products used include "Electroless Plating", polishing compounds, buffs, buffing motor. I'm quite happy with the results and, as you know, my website talks about Caswell and the products. Many thanks for great products and service.

This is the latest refinished antique. It is a Remington new model from the 1870s. It was a pile of junk, finish and mechanic wise. I have refinished about a dozen and a half old ones now. Have sold about  6 of them at a high price to cost ratio. Have paid for your nickel plating kit with the first gun I sold. - Dave Szilagy
